Amstrad ALT 286

(Picture 1) This is a laptop from the late 80s. Its battery is dead and there isn't much use we can use it for because most OSs don't run on the 80286 processor. There is 1MB Ram installed. We tried to upgrade it to 4MB but it didn't work so the 1MB has to be enough.
A gretaer problem was that we couldn't access this machine because the diskette drive is broken and due to the modified connector Amstrad used it can't easily be replaced. Luckily, there was a file transfer software already installed and we could use it to upload files by serila cable.
So we installed a Token Ring NIC (there is one 16 bit half-lenght AT slot) and installed the Dos Lan Manager.
Some time ago we found a description how to modify the cable to attach normal floppy drives to the port. We'll try to fix it.

Highscreen

It's a laptop that is quite historic because of its 8088 (XT) processor. It has two 720 Kb diskette drives, both working, a (somehow) working battery (quite surprising because of the age). 640Kb RAM are installed. 80*25 characters fit on the screen. A friend of us wrote a complete novel on this machine with Word 3!
